One of the best tools for the is the Kebberfegg search available at Research Buzz. Kebberfegg gives you one place to set up as many as "64 keyword-based RSS feeds at a time, in yummy HTML or OPML flavors." It took me several attempts at choosing the right set of option for the resulting feeds, but by initially using the 'html' option versus 'opml' it's easy to see exactly what I'd be getting. Yahoo Pipes Buzz Search is a similar product.
I really like the relevance of keyword searches on Social Bookmarking sites. While I'm a longtime fan of del.icio.us, I'm really growing to like citeULike, the "Academic del.icio.us" of Social Bookmarking.
Blog searches are topical as well. I started with Technorati but added Google Blog Search feeds as well to my PLE. If I see an relevant entry I'll either read it right away or file it on del.icio.us under 'toread.' If the article piques my interest I'll check out the rest of the blog and see if I want to add it's feed to my subscriptions...

Thanks Marianne!
I wasn't aware of Kebberfegg, Buzz, or citeUlike -- I added them to my list of tools to check out.
If you haven't already had a look, based on your interests, my PLE resource page might be useful.

I loved seeing your model, Ray, and the links to others. It's interesting to see so many people accomplishing the same goal in so many different ways.
Be sure to check out the MyBlogLog topics pages which aggregates feeds around tags.
